Harley-Davidson recall for damaged voltage regulator harness
Harley-Davidson is recalling 41,637 motorcycles due to a potential for short-circuiting and increased crash risk, according to the NHTSA.
According to the notice, a voltage regulator wire may rub on other components near the motorcycle's engine, wearing down the outer casing and exposing the wire. This can lead to short circuits and a loss of power with little to no warning to the driver, warned NHTSA.
For free, dealers will inspect and, as necessary, repair the voltage regulator output wire harness and install a secondary retention strap. Recall notification letters were sent on Sept. 23. Owners may contact Harley-Davidson customer service at 1-800-258-2464. Harley-Davidson's number for this recall is 0186.

The report said a loss of power brake assist can extend the distance needed to stop. This will increase the risk of a crash, the report said.
As a remedy, dealers will update the skid control ECU software. This service will be completed for free. Recall notification letters are expected to be sent on Nov. 5. Owners may contact Toyota customer service at 1-800-331-4331. Toyota's number for this recall is 24TA11.

An airbag that deploys with excessive force can increase the risk of an injury during a crash, the report said.
The NHTSA also said that the MX-5 Miata “fail to comply with the requirements of Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standard number 208, ‘Occupant Crash Protection.’”
To fix the issue, dealers will update the Sophisticated Air Bag Sensor (SAS) control module software. Recall notification letters are expected to be delivered by Nov. 17. Owners may contact Mazda customer service at 1-800-222-5500. Mazda's number for this recall is 6924I.
